We’ve been waiting for this for months (since the tour was announced) and finally June 1st arrived. Jason brought his pre-production models of “The Canadian” to Moncton as part of Rapido Trains’ “The Canadian on Tour”

From the moment he started talking about it you could sense his love for this train and his attention (and addiction) to detail. As he placed the first car on the tracks he talked a bit about how he uses actual photos of the car or locomotive to produce the molds. The end product is almost 100% accurate to a specific day and time in the life of the original. You can hear the pride in his products as he talks about them.

He carefully unwrapped each box and slowly the train started taking shape on the tables in front of us. As each car was placed on the tracks Jason talked about his the cars and their details. He showed the detail underneath (it seemed like nothing was missed even though it would almost never be seen) and talked about little things like the colour of the tint in the glass and the fact that the blinds are at different heights in every window. Even more amazing were the interior details that he made sure were in place. If you could see it through the window of the real train Jason made sure you could see it through the window of the model.

Eventually the whole train (except for locos) stretched out on the tables in front of us. What an impressive site! From the exterior and interior details to the working interior lights these passenger cars could be considered works of art.

Then he started unpacking the locomotives. The A-B-A set of FP9′s in Tuscan Red and Grey was incredible! The amount of detail Jason managed to put into these locomotive was amazing! The two VIA versions of the locomotives came next. Each were slightly different in some details but, according to Jason, were 100% accurate to photos taken on specific days.

We were very pleased with the turnout for this event. There were about 20 modelers from as far away as Prince Edward Island on hand to listen to Jason and see “The Canadian”. None of them were disappointed.

When the viewing session was over Chuck thanked everyone for coming and reminded them that they have time to order this set from Rapido. If you are interested in placing your order you should Contact Us soon!

We have received more information from Jason about his planned cross-Canada tour.

We will have plated, pre-production samples of all seven car styles of The Canadian ready later this spring, along with the CP FP9 and hopefully the F9B.

I will personally be taking these pre-production samples of The Canadian on a cross-Canada tour (by train, of course!) from Halifax to Vancouver in June 2011. Only after everyone has seen the actual model will we close the order desk for The Canadian and take deposits from dealers.

At this time we are about 60% sold out of our 2000-train run. I expect we will still have availability following the tour, so dealers and modellers alike will have the chance to see the model in person before finalizing their orders. A delivery date of late 2011 is a real possibility for the only true model of The Canadian ever produced. After three years of hard work, it’s finally coming together.

Full information on The Canadian is available at
http://www.rapidotrains.com/canadian.html

More information about the tour can be found on the Rapido web site
http://www.rapidotrains.com/tour1.html

We had lots of people in the store through the day. They’d come in to pick up a few things and chat with Ian and other customers. There were times it was difficult to move around in the store there were so many people shopping, looking for the perfect structure for a particular spot on their layout, or for the freight car of locomotive they really “need”. It was a great opportunity to meet new customers and to talk to those we hadn’t seen in a long time.

After the shopping and conversation inside the store it was time to go around back to the patio for a hamburger or hot dog and continue the conversation, or start a new one, with old friends they hadn’t seen in a while. The patio was just as crowded as the store!

We couldn’t have asked for better weather! Who would have thought that it was only the first part of April! It felt more like June!

Chef Chuck didn’t put in many hours at the barbecue, but his sous-chef(s) were well trained and had things well in hand.

Thanks to all of you that joined us through the day and helped to make it such a great success! We really had a great time!

We manufacture a wide range of decoders for HO, N, and Z scale.”We now have Canadian access to the entire TCS (Train Control Systems) line. Have a look at their price list or visit their web site for more information.

I compared their US suggested prices to our prices in the Shop, these are TCS products received from our Canadian supplier in the last few weeks. I found that our prices for the decoders were 3% to 5% cheaper than the US Funds MRSP in the pdf. Please use the numbers at the left of the list if you wish to order or ask for a quote.

In the Shop at the moment we have the A4X, A6X, T1, DP2X, M1, M4, IMF4 and IMFP4. As well, we have Kapton tape, and a good selection of TCS decoder wire in 30 gauge stranded 20 foot lengths, in the eight most common NMRA colours.

TCS has a “No Questions Asked” warranty, and they are the only decoder manufacturer that I know of that has Back Electromitive Force (BEMF) in their entire line. BEMF can be used to improve slow speed performance of some locomotives but the biggest advantage is that locomotives will run at a constant speed whether they are running on the level or going up or down a grade.

I’m on several decoder-type Yahoo lists, and I have never heard anything but praise for their line.

If you are looking for a decoder to install in that new or favorite locomotive you can’t go wrong with TCS. If you aren’t sure which decoder will fit your particular locomotive contact us and we’ll let you know which one(s) will fit. Order your TCS decoders today!

Don’s HO Service is pleased that we are now able to offer some of Martin’s extensive line, carrying those electronic supplies that relate specifically to DCC & decoder Installation.

Resistors, 22, 33 & 47 ohm for those who prefer 16v bulbs powered by a decoder. (Note: 16V bulbs will run directly off a decoder with no resistor, but the small-value resistor is recommended to buffer start-up shock, & prolong the life of the bulb.)

Do you know that there is an easy way to be notified when there is new information added to Don’s HO Service web site? If you subscribe to the RSS Feed for the site you will automatically be notified when something new is posted. You won’t have to worry about more email messages coming into your In-Box. RSS uses a “reader” to update you on new content on web sites you are subscribed to – not email. A “reader” is a separate program that keeps you up to date on web sites you are subscribed to.

Subscribing is easy, just click on the RSS icon in the lower left of the web site.

You will be asked to choose an RSS Reader. There are several to choose from. If you don’t use an RSS Reader I suggest you give Google Reader a try. It’s very easy to use. You will have to sign up for a Google account, if you don’t already have one. But signing up is a breeze and does not take long.

Once you have your Google Reader set up you can subscribe to other web sites using the “Add Subscription” option. Simply type or paste the URL for the site and, if the site has an RSS Feed, you will be notified when anything new is added.

Now you’ll never miss out on that great deal or early bird ordering!
